  8. I was today years old when I learned what the flags are for!! I always thought pools were just festive lol

  9. Watching your video has given me confidence to continue and improve my technique. Some years ago I taught myself to do a reasonable tumble turn. Although I have been swimming consistently (Im 69), I find that something in my back or neck/ rotator cuff has stiffened and I have lost my confidence and ability to do the turn. I go to pilates classes and have had sports massage to ease the ache. Any suggestions?

  10. Is that 50 yards or 50 feet on those 50’s?

  18. In these tutorials I often wonder why they try to reach speed of 100 words per minute..

  19. Keep one eye and ear underwater and tilt to breathe… I take way too long to breathe-in and also, being so close to the waterline it's very easy for water instead of air to flood my mouth. What a struggle!

  20. Good info … reduce your arm flinging and side to side turning while you talk … distracts from the good info

  21. Other ways of increasing you lung capacity and breathing techniques is whistling and/or playing wind instruments.
    Yes, I am serious.

  22. I am 76 and was a competitive swimmer in HS and college. These videos are the absolute best on form that I have ever seen. I will get my resting pulse rate below 60 with the information here. Competing (and winning?) in the Senior Olympics in the 80+ age group is my goal.

  23. My problem is I still have air when I flip for air, making me gag.

  24. I tried front stroke in swimming lessons once. Sucked a bunch of water in, stopped and spit water, hacked and coughed a while, decided it was stupid and wasn't doing that again.
I tried treading water. Did the arm thing, the foot thing, and sunk like stone out of sight. Decided it was stupid and wasn't doing that again.
I tried side stroke. Couldn't coordinate my arms and legs and sunk like a rock. Decided it was stupid and wasn't doing that again.

I've never had a swimming instructor who wasn't female and overweight, practically a human pontoon who couldn't sink if they tried. Also every movement they made in the pool was entirely perfect and unwasted while the rest of us flailed around in disbelief trying not to die.

  25. Can never seem to get an "air pocket" to happen, I have to either tilt my head further up (both eyes above the water) or drink pool water.

  26. Just beginning to actual swim lessons as an adult. When I turn my head to get a breath, I also take in water. Help!

  27. I don’t think I will be able to do that breathing thing with my asthma

  28. I'm a triathlete and learning to flip turn has been VERY beneficial for my training for a number of reasons. My breath control has improved as I'm not popping out of the water for air at the wall anymore. I feel more engaged during an interval because touch turns always felt like a stop and start whereas flipping allows for maintained momentum. And lastly, I just feel a lot more confident in the water having learned a new skill and feel more excited to push myself in tougher workouts. Triathletes, if you haven't learned to flip turn, I recommend it!

  29. How do you not accidentally drink the water every time you inhale air?
