The thing that stands out most to me with Phelps and how he comes off the wall, is that he is deeper, actually angling down when he comes off, and he stays under longer than the others. He made a comment about it after one of his races. He said he was able to 'get under the backwash'. My coach had made that comment to me about having to get down under the water that follows you into the wall. In that particular race, he went into the wall maybe 1/2 body length behind, and came up a body length in front. To date, I have never even heard or seen this in any turning video. How deep and how far to get under and past that back wash????
