  4. i have the same problem as the guy that asked the question. i have all the necessary muscles from years of strength training an climbing. i run alot i bike alot AND i swim alot of breast stroke, because that is the only swimmig technique i feel comfortable with. i can easily swim 2km breast stroke at a 2min/100m pace. i have no problems to breath out my nose while my head is underwater and into my mouth when im out. i am trying to learn to swim freestyle but i just cant get it right. my breathing just feels so awkward and i dont know why. i get tired after about 200m even with a poolbuoy on. i tried both 2-stroke and 3-stroke technique. with 3 stroke i feel like suffocating after about 50m so i speed up my swimming and thus get fatigued early. 2 stroke feels better overall, but i still get fatigue dafter about 200m

  6. Years ago, I was chatting with my doctor. Her husband was a marathon runner. She commented how he got so out of breath when he tried to swim. Thinking about a bit, I figured out that when running, your main source of propulsion is your legs. When you switch to swimming, your main source of propulsion is your arms. You have a whole new set of muscles that need to get aerobically conditioned, which is why runners run out of gas when they start swimming. If they are already in good aerobic condition, they won't have as much trouble converting as some one who is not in condition. Same with a swimmer who wants to run…

  9. For me, it was not relaxing. I was tensed because I was not floating easily so I had to swim hard to keep moving and not sink. Once I began to relax, swimming was a lot easier. I became a lot slower but at least I could swim more than one pool length at a time.

  15. I have the same problem with my freestyle! I can swim 2km nonstops breaststroke in under 50mins. But I can』t seem to get the right breathing pattern for sustainable freestyle. I either get out of breath or my shoulder and chest become fatigued. Don』t know what to do to get better

  16. Same here! I'm in top physical condition…but swimming I run out of gas oh so quickly.. I'm convinced it's my breathing technique…BUT you've made me think to look at my technique & where I'm wasting energy. Excellent "sit dow Saturday"

  17. It is similar for me I am a kickboxer very fit and good endurance in my sport ,2 month in the year I only swim as a workout mostly 50 and 100 plus drills but when i try 200 my form and technique start falling apart
